Disappearin’ Student Body Blues (Microfiction Monday #71)

Spooky, dude!”

“Yeah. Susan‘s gotten herself into some real dark an’ stormy places lately, ain’t she?”

“Dude. Tunnels, even.”

“Not any of ’em more scary-lookin’ than this one.”

“Yeah. Looks like our old high school. Before the last round o’ budget cuts.”

“Couldn’t paint the place then either, could they, dude?”

“No way. But rottin’ plaster an’ all, it still had people then. Where’d they go?

“Afghanistan?”

“Not all of ’em. I don’t think?

“Well, they sure as hell didn’t get jobs.”

“I got a bowl o’ ramen says you’re right.”

“Split it wit’ you. So where are they?”

“Transported, dude.”

“Yeah? Like, where?

“Dunno. But I think it’s like this:

Students and staff at Deadwood High saw graduation day as the light at the end of their tunnel. They ran for it – and were never seen again.

“Gotta watch out for them bright lights. Could be aliens.”

“Or oncomin’ traffic.”

“Dude.”
